David M. Manglos

Bio

Originally from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, David has been in the hospitality business since his first job as a dishwasher at age 16. He graduated from Michigan State University with High Honors in 1979 at the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management.

Although initially looking at a management track, he found his niche in the finance department. In 1992, with 3 young boys and full-time employment, David decided to go back to college to advance his accounting skills. After 3 years of studying hard, he passed the CPA exam on the first try and was among the top 150 in the U.S.

After earning his CPA license, David's employer (Houston Country Club) promoted him to Chief Financial Officer where he stayed for 16 years. Looking to spread his wings, David took on a new challenge accepting the Director of Finance position at The Club of Carlton Woods in the Houston area. After just 2 years, he was able to reduce operational losses by 20% and improve the overall IT effectiveness and support for the Club.

In 2010, he couldn't resist the opportunity to move to Austin, Texas and accept the position as CFO for Austin Country Club, a private country club founded in 1899. During his tenure at ACC, he was called upon twice to fill in as interim General Manager and manage the GM duties in addition to the finance department while the search for a permanent GM progressed.

ACC signed a 4-year contract in 2015 with the PGA Tour to host the World Golf Association Dell-Technologies Match Play tournament. This was a financial and operational turning point for the Club as all areas had to step up their game and perform at much higher levels. In 2019, the contract was extended another 4 years.

After decades of experience in the hospitality and finance industry, David was ready to retire from full-time employment. He left ACC at the end of 2022 and in early 2023 switched to a consulting role, assisting with the transition to the new CFO.

As a 40-year member of the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals association, David volunteered for several leadership positions including Chapter President and Board of Directors of this international organization. He also was a contributing editor of Uniform System of Financial Reporting for Clubs, Sixth and Seventh Editions. He is a current member of the Texas Society of CPA’s.

His final year of full-time employment ended at the end of 2022 and after some well-deserved rest and some long RV trips, is actively seeking clients for his CPA/Financial Consulting business.
